But anyways, this means that in smaller groups, the MT is taking less spike damage and therefore less big heals are needed, also priests can fill in any gaps when they are needed, leaving druids to be spamming HoTs to keep the tank constantly topped up saving priests the job of spamming their only HoT (Renew) at a costly amount of mana compared to a druid or spamming a G-Heal to have 50% overheal.
Thankfully in TBC they completely removed the obviousness of any big chunks of damage, so priests tend to cancel a hell of a lot of their g-heals at 90% casted and end up casting a flash on someone else because the MT maybe dodged an attack that could've been crushing. Either way, big heals are really useful when you expect a big chunk of damage to come in. When people were healing people who were tanking something that could deep breath, they were either timing their big heals (G-Heal in later patches or HT) as the boss was casting Deep Breath, if they weren't then they needed a slap or they knew someone else was doing it. Longer spells are more usefull when your MT takes big chunks of damage. In the end, I may just flip a coin to see if I go that much into Restoration. That fact will make the healing much more mana efficient since downranking heals is not longer an option (+healing gear has a much lower percent bonus to lower ranking spells). With the addition of HoT's stacking, it may be a viable talent to invest into (stacking of Rejuvinations along with Regrowths in a raid will be ticking the MT for around 1000 to 2000 every three seconds). Additionally, it would seem that HoT's will stack and there is no limit to this.
